Some things should not wait for the next free routine appointment. Some things should not wait for the next free routine appointment. Telephone the practice and say what is happening, or go to an emergency room, if you have a mole or a mark that has changed shape, colour or size, that has become raised or uneven, or that bleeds, itches or will not heal; a sore anywhere that has not healed in three weeks; a rash that is spreading quickly, especially with fever, blistering, or peeling skin; a painful rash in a band on one side of the body, particularly near an eye; redness that is hot, swollen, tender and spreading, which can be a deep skin infection; a new rash after starting a medicine, especially with mouth or eye involvement; or a child under three months with any widespread rash. If you have been treated here and something is worse rather than better after a procedure, telephone us rather than waiting for the review appointment. We would far rather field a call that turns out to be nothing.

Which is the right way to reach us?
Something on your skin has changed
Telephone, and use the word changed. A mark that is new, growing, darkening, becoming raised, bleeding, itching or refusing to heal is triaged differently from a routine appointment and should not go into the next free slot eleven weeks out.
Booking a routine appointment
Use the calendar — it is faster than telephoning and it shows exactly what each clinician has free, including Saturday mornings. /appointments.html
Asking what something on your skin is
That needs an examination rather than a message, and we do not answer it by email or from a photograph. It is a firm rule and there is a whole page on the reasoning. /no-diagnosis-online.html
Something wrong after a procedure
Telephone rather than waiting for the review appointment. Increasing pain from day three, spreading redness, heat, discharge or a fever wants a call the same day. /aftercare.html
Changing or cancelling an appointment
Use the link in your confirmation email, which works up until the appointment starts, or telephone us. Past appointments cannot be cancelled online.
A biopsy result
We telephone every result, including the reassuring ones, usually about a week after the sample was taken. If ten days pass and you have heard nothing, telephone us rather than assuming no news is good news.
A rash that is spreading fast, blistering, or with a fever
Not a web form and not an appointment next week. Telephone the practice, or go to an emergency room — particularly for a child, a rash that does not fade under pressure, or any swelling of the face or mouth.

The calendar reads each clinician's real schedule — their working days, their lunch break, the hours they have blocked out and everything already booked — so an hour on screen is an hour you can actually have. Booking takes about a minute.
